UIUC CVM Fall 2022 Vet Report
COVID-19 Timeline

Summary

For the 2022 University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Veterinary Medicine Fall Report, the director of the Design Group @ Vet Med tasked me with creating a visual timeline of the main highlights and events that transpired from January of 2020 through the summer of 2022, specifically related to how the university, and the College of Veterinary Medicine in particular, handled COVID-19.

Leading the way not only in research, but in their approach to dealing with the challenges of COVID-19, the University of Illinois developed a painless, saliva-based test in May of 2020, and by February of 2022, the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory had processed more than 2.65 million tests—more than the total number of tests performed by that date in 10 U.S. states and 60 countries worldwide.

As the designer of the timeline, which was to be the main feature of the issue, my task was to take all of the information that the marketing team wanted to include, take all of the images that they had, and find a way to present them in an organized and engaging way, without making it feel cluttered. The result was a 6-page, 3-spread graphic with 27 informational callouts (represented on the timeline in orange) and 6 short articles (represented on the timeline in blue).
